Mixed-use Westshore Marina District takes shape as big builders take land positions

A subsidiary of homebuilding giant Lennar has snapped up acreage in a new development on the Westshore waterfront with plans to acquire more land in the development by 2018. Bonita Springs-based WCI said it paid $2.5 million for 2.35 acres in Westshore Marina District, a mixed-use area on the waterfront near the intersection of Westshore and Gandy boulevards. These Florida cities are among fastest growing in the state

Recently released population estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau shows that many South Florida cities are among the fastest growing in the state, according to analysis by Florida International University’s Metropolitan Center. In fact, Doral ranked highly nationwide. With a 26.1 percent population increase from 2010 to 2016, Doral was the 11th-fastest growing large city in the nation. New USF basketball coach buys waterfront home in Tampa

The new coach of the University of South Florida's men's basketball team — whose contract is worth $6.58 million over six years — has purchased a waterfront home in Tampa. Brian Gregory and his wife, Yvette, paid $1.75 million for a 6,768-square-foot home on the water in Bay Port Colony, south of Hillsborough Avenue and north of the Courtney Campbell Causeway, according to Hillsborough County property records. Apartment rent hikes in Tampa above national average

People renting apartments locally are paying much more than they did a year ago. This February in Tampa, the average rent price was $1,166, 5.7 percent higher when compared to the same month a year ago. The spike was the 10th-largest increase in the nation, according to the February Yardi Matrix report provided by RentCafe. The national average increase was 4.3 percent.
